The Tarpon is one of the most interesting creatures in the world. They are the only fully marine species of fish able to breathe air absorbing oxygen and living in waters with almost no oxygen content.  These fish can be found on both sides of the Atlantic, having been seen as far north as Nova Scotia and as far south as Natal, Brazil.  Nicaragua specially holds Giant fishes. Across the Atlantic , Tarpon are found in Senegal, Congo, Gabón or Angola where fishes over 200 pounds are common.

Females lay up to 15 million of eggs. Spawning takes place offshore and when they are young make their way to shallow estuarine coastal waters.

Due its majestic appearance of size and colour, the tarpon is nicknamed Silver King. We can primarily find Tarpon in shallow waters, but also around coral reefs , in some freshwater lakes and rivers.
